Anniversary of the McCarran-Walter Act

The McCarran-Walter Act codified a racist National Origins quota system established by the Immigration Act of 1924. While this new law reversed policies preventing immigration from Asia, it imposed a 100-visa annual limit for every Asian country and set annual quotas at one-sixth of one percent of each nationalities population in the U.S. at 1920, ensuring almost all available visas went to northern or western Europeans.
