Anniversary of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution

On this day in 1868, the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was adopted. The Amendment states that “male” citizens of former slave states could not be denied the right to vote. It is the first time the word “male” appears in the U.S. Constitution to codify the rights of men alone.
