When students feel like they belong in school, they are more motivated, engaged, and ultimately show higher performance. In this course, you will learn about belonging, why it's important, and belonging strategies for your classroom.

Almost everyone has had a teacher that has shaped their life in a powerful and positive way. These are the teachers that support us and make us feel safe and respected, and the teachers that push us to do our best work. Both our intuition as educators and educational research finds that relationships between teachers and students are crucial for students' engagement, motivation, and ultimately success in school. We’re thrilled to be sharing some of this research with you, and we hope you find it useful.

Keeping the Promise of Quality Public Education

The Oregon Education Association (OEA) is a union committed to the cause of providing the basic right of great public education to every student. OEA represents about 41,000 educators working in pre-kindergarten through grade 12 public schools and community colleges. OEA’s membership includes licensed teachers and specialists, classified/education support professionals (ESPs), community college faculty, retired educators, and student members. OEA members also belong to the 3.2 million members of the National Education Association (NEA).
