First publication of the New Orleans Tribune

The New Orleans Tribune was published daily in French and English by Dr. Louis Charles Roudanez, a visionary free Black journalist and doctor (June 12, 1823 – March 11, 1890). The newspaper’s editorials called for full suffrage, civil rights for all, free public education for all, and carried on a war against President Andrew Johnson’s policies by sending copies of the Tribune to every member of the U.S. Congress on a regular basis.
