Inaugurated in 2001, Sexual Assault Awareness Month seeks to raise awareness about sexual violence and educate the public, including law enforcement, about male entitlement, lack of respect for women, and other true causes of sexual assault. It also promotes bystander involvement and encourages victims to report assaults without shame or fear.
