James Baldwin was born on this day in 1924. He was a black gay novelist, playwright & activist — a shining, bold voice for the American civil rights movement. He passed away in 1987.

OEA represents about 41,000 educators working in pre-kindergarten through grade 12 public schools and community colleges.
