Jacob Lawrence was born on this day in 1917. He was a social issue painter of the African American experience. Born in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Lawrence documented the migration of Black Americans north to jobs and hope.

OEA represents about 41,000 educators working in pre-kindergarten through grade 12 public schools and community colleges. OEA’s membership includes licensed teachers and specialists, classified/education support professionals (ESPs), community college faculty, retired educators, and student members.
