Anniversary of Victoria Woodhull becoming the first woman nominated for president

Victoria Woodhull was nominated in 1872 by the Equal Rights Party as a presidential candidate. Her platform centered on universal gender and racial equality, civil service, taxation reform and opposition to land grants to railroads and other corporations. She was a newspaper publisher, women’s rights activist, and the first woman to operate her own successful Wall Street brokerage firm.

OEA represents about 41,000 educators working in pre-kindergarten through grade 12 public schools and community colleges.
