Anniversary of the San Diego Free Speech Fight

In a move aimed at limiting labor activism and agitation, San Diego passed an ordinance in 1913 banning public speaking and singing in a 49-block area of the city. The Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) and other unions organized a demonstration to demand the right of individuals to exercise their free speech as protected by the First Amendment. Forty-one people were arrested for standing up for their rights.

The Oregon Education Association (OEA) is a union committed to the cause of providing the basic right of great public education to every student. OEA represents about 41,000 educators working in pre-kindergarten through grade 12 public schools and community colleges.
