Eleanor Roosevelt worked with university presidents, her Quaker friend Clarence Pickett, and various government officials to help Japanese American students leave internet camps and continue their education. It was a bureaucratic and political nightmare, but 3613 students were ultimately placed in 680 universities throughout the country.
