George Floyd was murdered by police officers in Minneapolis. One police officer suffocated him with a knee to his neck while two other officers kneeled on his body to retrain him, and another restrained onlookers. He died while gasping, "I can't breathe."
Worldwide protests erupted following videos of the murder going viral. Three of the officers were convicted of depriving Floyd of his civil rights while acting under government authority because they failed to give him medical aid. One officer was convicted on state murder and manslaughter charges. There has been a racial justice reckoning in all aspects of our society, including schools.
