In 1992, thousands of people attacked businesses, cars and individuals following the acquittal of four White policemen charged with beating Rodney King to death. The five days of rioting resulted in 2,000 injuries, 60 deaths, and $1 billion of property damage. The media characterized it as a “culture clash” between the Black community and the Korean community (who owned many of the businesses that were burned or looted).
