Island Trees Board of Education v Pico was a 1982 Supreme Court case in which the Justices considered if Boards of Education banning certain books from junior high and high school libraries based on content was a violation of the First Amendment. The Court ruled that Boards cannot restrict book availability just because they disagree with the content in the books.
