On July 1, 1892, the Amalgamated Association of Iron and Steel Workers went on strike against the Carnegie Steel Company in Homestead, Pennsylvania. An ensuing battle on July 6 left 16 people (seven company men and nine union members) dead. The strike would last four months, and include intervention by the U.S Government in support of Carnegie Steel. The Amalgamated Association collapsed at the end of the strike.
