Anniversary of the Founding of the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corp (WAC)

Representative Edith N. Rogers of Massachusetts introduced a bill for the creation of the Women’s Auxiliary Corp after seeing the maltreatment of women who served during WWI. She wanted to ensure women who served during that war had all the rights and benefits afforded to soldiers. Congress approved the formation of WAC in 1942 and President Franklin D Roosevelt signed it into law. WAC was disbanded in 1978 so that women could be completely assimilated into the armed forces.
