Labor Day honors the social and economic achievements of American workers and pays tribute to the contributions and struggles of our country’s labor force. The first Labor Day took place on this day in 1894. It was created by President Grover Cleveland to distract attention from May Day, the radical labor holiday, in both the U.S. and Canada.
