Anniversary of the first Jewish uprising in the Warsaw Ghetto

In 1943, the German military entered into the Warsaw Ghetto, planning to deport a portion of the population. The residents of the Ghetto believed the Germans were planning to deport everyone and met them with armed resistance. The first uprising in German-occupied Europe resulted in a sense of hope and sparked rebellions elsewhere.
