Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is a program that allows young people who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children to receive renewable work and education permits to defer deportation. DACA was signed into law by President Obama in June 2012 thanks to the longtime grassroots organizing of United We Dream. The application process commenced on this day. As of the end of 2022, legal action has halted new DACA applications from being processed, but current recipients can continue to renew their status.
