Dean Juliette Derricotte and one of her students, Nina Johnson, were seriously injured in a hit and run accident. The Hamilton Memorial Hospital in Dalton, Georgia refused to care for them because they were Black. The nearest hospital that would treat them was 35 miles away. Both were dead by the time they reached it.
