Anniversary of the Black Hawk War

Black Hawk was a Sauk warrier who resisted the growing presence of White settlers on tribal lands in 1832. The Sauk and Fox tribes had signed a treaty in 1804 ceding all their lands east of the Mississippi but Black Hawk faced off with a large army of US soldiers in protest.

OEA represents about 41,000 educators working in pre-kindergarten through grade 12 public schools and community colleges.
